No. 42

  • I broke from my usual palette for this piece, letting bold red move across the canvas surrounded by golds, yellows, and cool blue-greens. The colors draw from medieval illuminated manuscripts, where red often symbolized passion and life, and gold suggested divine light and spiritual significance.

Manuscripts like the Book of Kells and the Winchester Bible used these tones to bring sacred texts to life. I wanted to explore those same pigments for their lasting emotional weight—the way red still feels immediate and alive, while gold carries a quiet sense of warmth and reverence. In that tension, the painting found its rhythm.
