THE PAINTINGS

Inspired by the New York Abstract Expressionists of the 1940s and ’50s, these paintings unfold through layered washes of oil that bleed, merge, and are sometimes scraped away, leaving traces of earlier stages. Each canvas becomes a record of both accumulation and erasure. Over time, the works have grown in scale because the washes themselves seem to demand more space. This expansion reflects a subconscious resistance to confinement, a natural impulse to stretch, flow, and extend beyond boundaries. On larger surfaces, the process reaches its full expression, revealing forms that can only emerge when given room to grow. In more recent works, rudimentary symbols and objects—often gilded in bronze or gold—have begun to surface within the layers. These forms reference mythology, symbology, and ancient history, appearing like relics embedded in the abstraction. They mark a new stage of experimentation, where flowing paint meets ancient symbols to explore what continues to resonate across time.
