THE OILS

Inspired by the New York Abstract Expressionists of the 1940s and '50s, the Oils evolve through countless layers of thinned washes that bleed and blend across the canvas. Each layer interacts with those beneath it, creating subtle shifts in depth and opacity. The process involves both accumulation and removal—sections are often stripped away in moments of uncertainty, revealing traces of earlier stages. With each new work, the canvases have grown increasingly larger, driven by a resistance to spatial constraints.

This need for expanded scale stems from something subconscious and inexplicable—the way the washes themselves need room to flow and interact freely, mirroring a fundamental human resistance to confinement. What unfolds on these larger canvases reveals an essential truth—some forms of expression can only emerge when given the space to fully inhabit themselves.
